Fruit Bats Identified As Origin Of Nipah Virus Outbreak| Mathrubhumi News
Kozhikode: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has confirmed that fruit bats were the source of Nipah virus in Kerala, reports Hindustan Times. 21 bats caught from Changaroth in Perambra, the place from where the first Nipah cases were reported, were not fruit bats. Those bats were insectivores. Hence, the results turned to be negative. In the second round of examination, the presence of Nipah virus was detected in some of the 51 bats caught from the region.
