To prevent swelling, take off any clothing that might enclose the bite area. Keep the bitten extremity elevated above heart level. In order to prevent the venom from spreading further, you must also keep the affected extremity very still. Clean the bite area with water to remove any dirt that has become lodged in the wound. Be careful not to get any of the venom that is near the bite into any open wounds. Call 911 immediately after.
