Kozhikode and nearby districts in Kerala are on high alert due to the reemergence of the Nipah virus, resulting in two fatalities. Three out of five tested samples have confirmed the virus's presence, with four active Nipah cases reported. Of particular concern is a nine-year-old patient, highlighting the virus's threat to vulnerable demographics. Mandatory mask-wearing measures have been instituted to contain the virus's spread. Contact tracing has identified 168 individuals with potential exposure, including healthcare workers and close associates of the deceased. A central government medical team, a mobile laboratory from Pune's National Institute of Virology, and an ICMR team from Chennai are aiding response efforts.
