Telegram CEO Arrested in France Over Alleged Offences Related to the App
According to the reports, French police arrested Telegram CEO Pavel Durov from Le Bourget airport near Paris over alleged offences related to the popular Dubai-based messaging app. The 39-year-old had reportedly arrived in France from Baku when he was arrested. His arrest warrant was issued by France’s OFMIN, an office that looks into offences related to minors. Durov is accused of failing to curb criminal use of Telegram due to a lack of moderation. Reports suggest a preliminary probe into offences like drug trafficking, promotion of terrorism, fraud, cyberbullying and organised crime led to his arrest. Telegram allows groups of up to 200,000 members, which makes it easier for false information to spread virally.
