The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a 24-hour nationwide strike starting from the morning of August 17. The doctors are protesting against the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata. The IMA has announced the withdrawal of non-emergency medical services. However, the service for emergency and casualty departments will remain functional during the strike. The IMA has put forth five demands, including a swift probe and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
